Current advancement in electrochemical analysis of neurotransmitters in biological fluids
2017
Abstract Analysis of neurotransmitters is useful for the diagnosis of central nervous system diseases. This review gives a general view of recent advances in the development of electrochemical sensors for detection/determination of neurotransmitters. The purpose of the review is to provide useful insights in terms of ( a ) choice of materials, ( b ) methods/techniques preferably applied, ( c ) immobilization procedures, and ( d ) other practical aspects. Following an introduction into the field, we give a short account on the principle and general types of electrochemical sensors, and then treat sensing methods for neurotransmitters. It is subdivided into sections on ( i ) Dopamine ( ii ) A…
What Makes Work Meaningful
2017
Abstract Most organizations nowadays have the required resources and should offer an appropriate culture to provide each employee with the opportunity and context to develop the feeling of meaningful work. The managers and organizational leaders should be the first to recognize and perceive the work they do as being important. In this article, we examine the current development of the study of the nature, causes, and consequences of meaningful work, and we offer ideas of research opportunities regarding the interface of organizational perspectives on performing and providing meaningful work.
A Review of Bias Research in Auditing: Opportunities for Integrating Experimental Psychology and Experimental Economics
2009
The objective of this paper is to show opportunities for integrating psychological and economics research in auditing. For this purpose, auditing research that employs both the methodologies of experimental psychology and experimental economics is collectively reviewed. The review is structured along three fundamental research questions: (1) Are auditors prone to biases; (2) what are the consequences of biased judgment in auditing; and (3) do features of the audit environment interact with the biased judgment? While both the research approach of experimental psychology and experimental economics are employed for addressing these resesarch questions, both approaches differ in their focus and…
A framework for a network-level performance measurement system in SME networks
2008
The present study aims to present a theoretical framework for a network-level performance measurement system. The suggested framework for the performance measurement system is composed of the factors that enable and cause the productivity and profitability of the network form of organisation. The framework developed in this study can be divided into six subdimensions: (1) network culture, (2) resources and competences, (3) models of action, (4) internal processes, (5) customer perspective and (6) financial indicators of the network. We argue that this framework provides research opportunities to study the performance of the network form of organisation; but even more importantly, it provide…
Identifying future research opportunities in online consumer reviews: the case study of 'TripAdvisor'
2011
Submitted version of an article from the journal: International Journal of Technology Marketing. Published and definitive version available from Inderscience: http://dx.doi.org/10.1504/IJTMKT.2011.045913 The aim of this article is to identify future research opportunities for using online consumer reviews websites such as TripAdvisor.com as a case study. The literature review covers the internet and growth of eTourism, virtual communities, virtual community typologies, and the importance of TripAdvisor.com for travel research, electronic word–of–mouth (eWOM), social networking and the impact of online travel reviews on consumers. Propositions and future research opportunities are then raise…
Toward an understanding of price wars: Their nature and how they erupt
2001
Abstract This paper aims to improve our understanding of the unique phenomenon of market competition, called price wars, as little is known about their nature and how they erupt. More precisely, we offer selected illustrations of the reality of price wars, identify key attributes of price wars, propose a definition of price wars, and offer a conceptual framework in which early warning signals (EWSs) of price wars are distilled and linked to the likelihood and the intensity of such wars. Also, initial empirical findings on some of the effects of price wars are offered, showing that price wars inflict substantial damage on the companies involved. Implications for researchers entail that numer…
RETRACTED: Optical bio(sensing) using nitrogen doped graphene quantum dots: Recent advances and future challenges
2018
Abstract The exceptional optical properties and the presence of high number of reactive sites make nitrogen doped graphene quantum dots (N-GQDs) powerful tools in analytical nanoscience and nanotechnology. At the same time, their opto-electronics properties make them excellent nanomaterials for biomedical analysis aspects. This review aims to explore progress to date various features of N-GQDs for optical bio (sensing) of target analytes. Moreover, as another aim of this review is to provide insight into the intensity based spectroscopic methods which are applied in bio (sensing) discussing their advantages and disadvantages. More importantly, we discuss in detail different aspects of the a…
Universal Design of ICT for Emergency Management
2018
The primary objectives of this article are to give a systematic overview of the current state of the emerging research field of Universal Design of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for Emergency Management, and to highlight high-impact research opportunities to ensure that the increasing introduction of ICT in Emergency Management can contribute to removing barriers instead of adding more barriers, in particular for the elderly and people with disabilities. A systematic review on various literature with respect to Universal Design, ICT and Emergency Management between 2008 to 2018 was employed in this study, and reviewed systematically using a predefined framework. The ultimat…
The hidden burden of severe asthma: from patient perspective to new opportunities for clinicians
2020
Severe asthma is an important topic in respiratory diseases, due to its high impact on morbidity and mortality as well as on health-care resources. The many challenges that still exist in the management of the most difficult-to-treat forms of the disease, and the acknowledgement of the existence of unexplored areas in the pathophysiological mechanisms and the therapeutic targets represent an opportunity to gather experts in the field with the immediate goals to summarize current understanding about the natural history of severe asthma and to identify gaps in knowledge and research opportunities, with the aim to contribute to improved medical care and health outcomes. This article is a conse…
